Groups representing downtown businesses and the nonprofit SOLVE organization are coming together with the support of volunteers to host another downtown Portland litter cleanup day on Wednesday, Sept. 30.
This will be the second Downtown Portland cleanup event that SOLVE has hosted this month. The first event on Sept. 3 saw more than 500 volunteers attend six check-in locations throughout downtown resulting in 3,290 pounds of trash being collected.
The latest effort is sponsored by the Portland Business Alliance, the Portland Lodging Alliance with added support from the law firm Graham Nash & Dunn and Schlesinger Companies.
People are proving eager to continue their efforts to cleanup and revitalize Downtown Portland, ensuring downtown Portland remains a welcoming place for people to work, shop, and dine, officials said. The interest has prompted volunteers to make litter cleanups a reoccurring event, happening at the end of every month.
Anyone wanting to help needs to register in advance at solveoregon.org and will adhere to SOLVE’s Volunteer Safety Guidelines which include maintaining at least six feet of distance from anyone outside their household and wearing a mask during the event, among other measures.
Trash disposal for the event will be donated by Central City Concern.
